The amount of HP it takes off is somewhat random, but even the low end hurts a lot. If you see this attack more than twice in the battle you're probably out of luck. Preparation First off, this is a highly luck-based fight no matter how well you prepare.
If the AI decides it likes Curse that day, you will lose. And even if things are going well, there's always the chance Ozma casts Meteor and wipes out your party instantly. Don't expect to win this fight the first time, or even the tenth time. The good new is Ozma only has 55, HP. Most of your attacks should be doing damage or close to it, so it could be a quick fight if things go your way.
There are a number things you can do to improve your chances against this tough boss, with the most important being the Friendly Monsters sidequest. In certain locations on the world map you may encounter friendly versions of normally hostile monsters. You'll know when you've encountered one because instead of the regular battle music a peaceful tune will play.
The monster will ask for a specific gem. Go into the item menu and use the requested stone on the monster. The encounter will end and you'll receive large amounts of AP , much more than a typical battle, and other rewards. Attacking a friendly monster will cause it to flee, making the quest impossible to finish. However, it makes sense to do them in the sequence listed because the spoils provide you the gem requested by the next monster. Doing this sidequest will help you against Ozma in several ways: The AP you get from the monsters will allow you to learn any abilities you want to use in the fight much faster.
After receiving the Diamond the Yan will inform the player that the "the round guy," Ozma, can now be reached with physical attacks. Although the Yan never states it, finishing the quest also removes Ozma's ability to absorb Shadow damage.
That last point is the important one. If you outfit your party with Shadow absorbing or nullifying equipment, whenever Ozma casts Doomsday it will do massive damage only to itself. Your party will be either unharmed or healed. Each party member will also need to have the Reflect Status active at all times, either by equipping a Reflect Ring or by equipping the Auto-Reflect ability in order to prevent Berserk.
When selecting your party members, make sure that they have access to the Auto-Regen ability. The Auto-Life ability is of questionable utility as it takes quite a lot of ability points to enable and it is a one-time use only. This will cause Ozma to heal your party if or when it casts Doomsday and to damage itself. This will cause them to bounce Doomsday back to Ozma twice, if both of them are in your party , dealing massive damage to Ozma and healing your party.
In order to counteract this, make sure that you line up all your party members attacks to be used at the same time rather than using their attacks as soon as their ATB bar fills.
Trophies are optional achievements that you can unlock by completing certain tasks in the PS4 version of the game. A full list of the trophies that you can obtain can be found in the Trophies Section. If you acquiesce to the Friendly Monsters' requests, you will be awarded a large amount of AP and some items.
Later monsters in the sidequest provide precious gemstones that will be requested by the next Friendly Monster in the quest, so be careful not to consume them. The table below details every Friendly Monster, their locations, and what item you must give to satisfy them. These are not guaranteed encounters, they simply randomly appear in these locations.
You may only give the friendly Yan a Diamond if you have satisfied the requests of all eight other Friendly Monsters first. Once that is completed, you can give a Diamond and complete the quest, weakening Ozma considerably.
It lies to the player, asking for a Diamond and running away if the player falls for their ruse. Ozma is found at Chocobo's Air Garden. This is part of the Chocobo Hot and Cold sidequest and is the final location where you can search for Chocographs.
Ozma doesn't have an attack pattern and a great deal depends on luck. If the player brings Amarant or Quina, they can keep casting Auto-Life on party members as necessary, given the potential for Ozma to wipe the party out with attacks such as Meteor. As three of these abilities take time to power up, one can make the best use of physical attackers by equipping them with Bird Killer and MP Attack instead to reach up to damage per normal attack; however, they become useless if afflicted with Mini.
As Ozma's HP is relatively low for a superboss, a successful round of powerful attacks can shave away a considerable portion of its 55, total HP in a single round. Because Ozma has a series of devastating attacks, such as Meteor and Curse, it is always to the player's advantage if Ozma can be influenced into not using its more debilitating attacks, wasting its turns by using milder alternatives. Having characters be immune to Holy makes Ozma cast it regardless, and having party members at susceptible levels for Lv5 Death and Lv4 Holy causes Ozma to cast those abilities, thus only targeting certain members of the party.
Amarant and Vivi can use their Return Magic ability to counter Ozma's Doomsday without using up a turn. If Amarant is in the party, he can also use the Curse ability to add an elemental weakness to Ozma; however, Ozma will never become weak against Earth or Shadow, even though the status bar may state the ability has worked with one of those elements.
Giving Ozma an additional weakness allows Vivi, Garnet, and Eiko to use elemental attacks and eidolons to their full potential. If the player has a Dark Matter , throwing it at Ozma deals damage. If the party defeats Ozma before encountering Hades in Memoria , Hades will comment on the feat. You already beat him? This demonstrates that the Meteor Ozma uses is a different ability to the one Vivi can cast, because the regular version of the spell costs 42MP.
When Ozma uses curative magic on itself, the top half of the sphere is shown casting the spell. When using magic that causes status ailments except for Mini or black magic, the bottom half is shown casting the spell. When casting Doomsday, Ozma will spin around, representing both halves casting the spell. Frank Baum. Final Fantasy Wiki Explore.
