You can hear it in the sound, as well. I tested the A40 with and without the MixAmp to get an idea of what the A40 actually sounds like, versus how it sounds with the MixAmp. And standalone, the A40 sounds fine. With the MixAmp, the A40 sounds more impressive. Is it the most accurate listening experience? Would you mix an album on it? The mic is flexible, easy to position, and voice reproduction is rich and crystal clear.
Astro also scores points for providing more microphone options than usual. That answer is complicated. The A40 with MixAmp sounds great, definitely one of the better-sounding gaming headset packages. Wired, the aforementioned Logitech G Pro X is a solid alternative for half the price.
Pros MixAmp handles a sizable number of inputs with ease Sounds great, albeit much better with EQ Microphone is one of the best on the market. Cons Expensive, especially for a wired headset MixAmp purchase is borderline essential Cable is long and tends to rub against the neck. Price comparison from over 24, stores worldwide. In short, it should be very good, at least, and on paper it is.
In practice, not so much. The Astro Gaming A50 Wireless is unmistakably a gaming headset. It comes with velour pads, which is great for gamers with glasses. Materials like leatherette offer better isolation overall, but you need something a little softer and more flexible to establish a decent seal around a pair of glasses.
When I first started using the headset it seemed well built. However, even after a just a little while the durability of the band seemed pretty suspect.
The headband cushion snaps into place, and after taking it out once, it popped out almost every time I used the headset after. The headband was a source of frustration throughout my time with it.
After closely examining the headset, nothing was bent or broken, the pad just has a very loose connection. This was, in a word, infuriating. Eventually I needed to put a rubber band over the cushion to keep it in place. Apart from the band issues, using the headset is fine; but it takes a little getting used to. There are all sorts of on-ear controls, and figuring out which button or switch is where takes time. On the right side, there are buttons for adjusting the balance between game and chat audio.
On the left ear cup, the microphone mutes when you flip it up. The dock worked fine most of the time. Also pictured: The hair tie I relied on to keep the headband in place. Connecting a headset that employs an optical cord to a PlayStation 4 is always a little more complicated than plug-and-play headsets. However, even with all the correct steps followed, it was a little inconsistent.
The Astro Gaming A50 Wireless actually comes with quite a bit in the box. On top of the headset itself, you get the included wireless base station, micro USB cord for connecting it to your platform of choice, and an optical cable for playing on the PlayStation 4. Dec 20, 1, 0 19, Sep 9, 1, 0 20, NOt worth it, stay away from ALL of those "'gaming" headsets out there, you'll be better off with a good non-gaming headphone and a strap-on mic, will give you much better sound quality for the price.
There's a thing called dolby headphone that gives a very realistic 3d image on some stereo headphones, the ATH-AD included, not sure if that's what you're you're talking about but either way it's worth a try, they're still pretty damn good on plain stereo mode.
Yep, they were my first hi-fi pair of headphones after using several "gaming" headsets over the years, I've got better ones now but they cost nearly 3x of the AD, I still use them for movies sometimes, they stick out for being very spacious sounding due to the open design which is also great for gaming.
It's sad that you value looks over SQ. Jul 29, 14, 1 41, I got the a30's and wow they are good! But that was still when I was into console gaming, but now I am into pc gaming.
Try something by corsair. AdrianPerry Distinguished. Jun 17, 2, 0 21, I personally own Astro A40's and have done for about 2 years now. Ok so my take on them: Amazing headset, very comfortable, great sound quality. I don't really have and complaints at all!
The cost: Ok so they ARE without a doubt, an expensive headset, but if you can justify using them on a regular basis, then the cost isn't the most important thing. When i bought my Astro's I was only working weekends and had 5 days a week free to play games, sad I know, but that's the situation I was in. If I think of all the hours of use i've had from the headset compared to the total cost. Ultimately, if your going to spend money on A40's and then only use them for say 1hour per day, I can't see it really being worthwhile.
If you have to question the cost, then it probably isn't worthwhile for you. There are cheaper options available. In short, in my own experience, Astro's are worth every penny.
